After obtaining qualifications in Speech and Drama teaching and Speech Training, I soon realised that Life had other plans for me besides teaching. Much like Alice in Wonderland, I fell head-long into a very long, very deep, yet fascinating rabbit hole. Along the journey, I was fortunate enough to have met some extraordinary characters who generously taught me how to (and in some instances how not to)communicate, problem solve, manage, mentor and lead.Working in the Creative Industries (theatre, filmmaking, media, marketing and advertising)in a variety of roles taught me many valuable life lessons and skills for which I am deeply grateful.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A TEACHER?
Two years ago, I took time out to reflect on the work I was doing and really look at the world around me. I decided it was time for changeand found myself drawn back to my original plan to teach. My overriding concernis the impact the 4th Industrial Revolution will have on us all. How do we equip ourselves - intellectually, emotionally and spiritually - to survive, thrive and live meaningful lives in an AI driven world? I believe creativity, imagination and collaboration is the key. With this idea being my new North Star,I endeavour to engage with students in fresh, relevant, creative ways that makes learning English not only fun, but insightful and effective.
WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO START TEACHING?
Being offered the goldenopportunity to kick start my ‘encore’ career at an English Theatre Camp in St. Petersburg. My destiny was sealed when, after that, I was fortunate enough to have been invited to join the remarkable team at Windsor.
WHY RUSSIA?
St. Petersburg had been on my travel bucket list for decades. Images of the city’s history, architecture and way of life had always fascinated me. Having the opportunity to immerse myself slowly into the culture and language of this magnificent city and country is a massive privilege and a dream come true.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE RUSSIA?
It was inevitable!
WHICH COURSES DO YOU TEACH?
Pre-teens, teens and adults - from beginner to upper intermediate levels.
WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT TEACHING?
That‘ah-ha’ moment when the lights come on- whenthe student crosses the bridge and moves from not knowing to knowing, from not understanding to understanding.
WHAT ATTRACTS YOU ESPECIALY TO TEACHING?
The joy and privilege of being the person who introduces something completely new to someone.
